Kingdom Hearts 3 is finally out, the closing chapter in an epic adventure about our favorite Disney and Final Fantasy characters kissing, I think. OK, so I don't know what Kingdom Hearts is about. I played the first game as an impressionable teen and remember very little except that I lost the copy of KH I borrowed from a friend and that I found it years later and kept it anyway. It's still in my parents' basement. I'll never tell. For better or worse, Kingdom Hearts 3 isn't on PC, so we're stuck living vicariously through complex YouTube lore explainers and troubling screenshots of Woody fighting shadow beasts devoid of any context (not that it would help). Submitted on 5/8/2019 Review title of Leo CaeloThis is a success, not a disappointment.I think people had their expectations set pretty high and I'll admit I did too. Especially since I had played (and watched the cutscenes of) every single game. However, many are letting those expectations that were not met cloud their judgement from what has been given. If these expectations actually had been met then this probably wouldn't have felt like a Kingdom Hearts game. It would have been very crammed which is something Tetsuya Nomura definitely wanted to avoid (hence the absence of Final Fantasy characters). People have also been disappointed by the lack of endgame content, but this not the final mix. People either don't remember or simply didn't play the first 2 Kingdom Hearts games when they were in the same situation (although I wouldn't call it a lack of content at that time).
Wait, for the ReMIND dlc. When that comes out, that will be the right time to really chase endgame content.
Right now, we have a wonderful end to a saga that ultimately did what it should have done. Submitted on 7/9/2019 Review title of KetronixFun, but there is a bug that erases all save data. This game is a solid entry into the Kingdom Hearts franchise that neatly wraps up all story elements from the previous games.
Despite being a short game, I had a blast with the fun, smooth gameplay along with memorable characters interacting with Disney ones old and new. However, as I loaded up this game from the Dashboard back in April, I found that all of my save data files were completely wiped from my Xbox One with zero explanation, as if I have never played the game before.
This occured again in June when I had already beaten the story a second time. This is extremely frustrating to deal with and I hope that Square Enix works on a fix for it soon.
Submitted on 6/9/2019 Review title of Perrin Aybara 3Save your time and moneyKingdom Hearts 3 is easily the weakest entry in the series. The game looks great, but fails to do anything else that compares to the legacy of its predecessors.
The voice acting and dialogue are forced, instead of the campy fun with underlying tones of maturity that we got in the past. Cutscenes are far too long, and the story is a mess with an underwhelming payoff. Combat regressed from KH2 and BBS.
The mechanics are a bloated amalgam of everything that came before, with a smattering of new AoE mechanics that totally dominate combat and make it far too easy. Customization and RPG elements are almost entirely removed, with KH3 having the worst synthesis system in the series to date, including a simple story progress wall to uniformly upgrade keyblades.
Even with development delays and a convoluted meting out of the story over more than a decade and a dozen or so games across multiple consoles, I expected a better effort than this. Definitely not worth the wait or the cost to purchase. Submitted on 5/20/2019 Review title of BARNFACE01WEEB WIELDING CRINGE WARRIOR EXTRAVAGANZAI was so excited for this game to come out because the first and second KH were a childhood favorite. However, the nostalgia wore off for me about a week in.
KH3 seems to rely too much onthe wow factor of playing with disney characters. The story of oranization 13 seemed thrown in with WAY TOO LONG CUTSCENES IM TALKING 15 MINUTES WORTH OR MORE between game time. The graphics are wonderful i'll give it that and i know this is essentially a kids game but the charm that reached me when i was kid doesnt seem to be here. I really wanted to like this game but i havnt even bothered to finish it because the plot lost me and the gameplay (although it looks and plays fantasticly) is too easy. Shame.UPDATEI CANNOT FATHOM WHY THE CUTSCENES ARE SO LONG.
TOWARDS THE END (AND IM NOT KIDDING) IVE BEEN SITTING THROUGH NEARLY 30 MINUTES WORTH OF BORING, CRINGY, UNINTERESTING CUT SCENES AND THERES STILL MORE?! I KNOW YOU CAN SKIP THEM BUT I DONT WANT TO LOSE OUT ON WHAT LITTLE PLOT THERE ALREADY IS!
